I know the saying is that a picture speaks a thousand words, but there’s a habit in site design that winds me up – it’s the belief that people seeing a picture will hear the same words that you intended.
It’s not too much of a problem when an image is used alongside words, but when an image is used, for example, as a link to your latest blog piece then anyone visiting your site may be left guessing what your content is about.
Add to this the fact that, in site speed, energy efficiency, and accessibility, images ‘weigh’ a lot more than a thousand words it pays to consider whether you really need to use imagery.
Include the title of your blog piece as text. If an image really enhances your site and enables the person visiting your site to get to the content they want quicker then include an image.
